Mom: Son in 'extensive therapy' after viewing library book | son, book, therapy - News - WaltonSun.com

And this article makes me shake my head....
So the kid "put the book in his backpack." Does that mean he didn't check it out, but decided to "steal" the book? Which would make me believe that he knew it was a book that he probably wouldn't be able to check out of the library without some questioning.

Also, what could have possibly been portrayed in the book that would warrant being sent to an in-patient treatment facility? It sounds like this child may have had some issues before he took the book. Or maybe Mom is a little banana-town?

  1. Seriously. Wow.

How sheltered was he? Kids aren't so easily messed up.

Two possibilities: sex and violence ( i hope i don't get the song in my head)

Sex: kids tend to laugh and forget because it's not relevant.

Violence: possible. I get shocked by violent images. I've been to Auschwitz and a former slave exporting fort in Ghana and the feeling from just seeing that stays with you forever and you can never be prepared. However, kids are pretty strong and if they have a parent to talk to them about it, it wouldn't be so traumatizing to put them into therapy.

Also, a lot of kids are exposed to movies, tv and video games that make violent images completely normal to them.

So, I can't really imagine what the kid saw that was so traumatizing.
